I often get asked, at pen shows or by e-mail, what fountain pens I use on an everyday basis. I really had to work to get this s-era Montblanc medium stub nib to write perfectly. Subsequent Montblanc purchases haven’t been as finicky. How the nib writes out of the box, and for the most part, price. When I first published my review, I struggled with an iffy, s-era medium nib that Mike Masuyama finally managed to fix. Nibs are where Montblanc will get you. Mike Masuyama has ground most of my Montblancs to a. If you’re new to pens, I’d advise you to proceed slowly, since there’s a thriving market for counterfeit Montblanc pens and it’s worth it to do your diligence and make sure that you purchase from a reputable seller. Here are some options to get you started:. Disclaimer: I purchased all three pens shown in this review with my own funds, for my own use.
This has not been particularly effective. In general, all Montblancs made after should have a serial number, but remember that there are still a considerable number of used pens that date from before that, so lack of a serial number may mean only that it is an older pen. The font of the serial number has changed at least once; the early ons such as my MB is block-lettered, while current ones use a font that resembles the computer-readable numbers in a personal check.
I am not sure when the switch occurred.

The flack spent more of our emails discussing their travel arrangements than talking about censorship or FPN. They had a chance to respond but chose not to take it. From the initial posts on FPN all of which have now been censored , it was clear that the commenters had received the information from Montblanc retailers once they received catalogues and product details from Montblanc HQ. As far as Montblanc is concerned, they probably view the fault here as lying with the retailer, who was sharing information that should not have been disclosed, or with the buyer who was granted privileged access and should have respected the agreements.
My understanding is that retailers are required to sign non-disclosure agreements NDAs in which they promise not to reveal product information before the official announcements. I also understand that the retailers who do share information ahead of time generally ask the customers to keep it under their hat.
I reached out to a few other retailers and they confirmed that no action was being taken against them either. The truth is that Montblanc has placed their vendors, particularly their boutiques, in a position where they basically have to break the rules set by Montblanc. But once there are competing boutiques, things become more complicated. In Sydney, there are two stores on adjacent blocks. As the manager of a boutique, how do you compete in that kind of environment?

You might want to take a look at this post , which compares ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s era s. In a word, it suggests that the pen is indeed a ’70s model, for the reasons quinden points out above. I’ve seen 6 different feeds on the series so far:. That thread on s from FPN is not very reliable when it comes to the post s pens. These are my observations on the dating of certain features, based on looking at lot of ebay auctions:.

Vintage and less vintage I don’t have any 90’s vintage ‘s These range from to about ’90, they only come in black. Same line up but with a vintage first in line to show the size difference. The 50’s celluloid pens have the model heat stamped on the filler knob, I have yet to see one with the nib style stamped and I believe it’s because in the day if you bought one of these the nib of your choice was fitted for you. I think this allowed the store to keep a smaller inventory of expensive pens on hand.
Also note the gold band near the filler, early pens have a rounded band and even into the 60’s this is true, after about the band is flat and wide. This is one of the best ways to break down the main era of your pen, The first pens made from to have a telescoping filler and when the knob is back you can see white colored metal, in the 60’s to the late 70’s you see a black plastic area there.
